Course curriculum outline for Part 1:
- What is Makaton
- Who is use Makaton
- Tips for effective signing
- How to use symbols and when
- Signing and symbols for stage 1 and 2
- Signing and Symbols for part of the additional vocabulary.
Course Aims for Part 1:
- Level 1 training provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme
- Sessions include discussing commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to start using Makaton in everyday situations at home or work
- Participants will also learn the signs and symbols from Stages 1 and 2, and some of the Additional stage, of the Core Vocabulary
Learning Outcomes - by the end of the course participants will be able to:
- For staff to demonstrate good signing
- For staff to understand the importance of using signing when communicate with service users
- For staff to understand the purpose of signing and using symbols on daily routines
- For staff to demonstrate the elements of teaching a new skill

- History/Research for using Sign and Symbols
- Teaching Procedures
- Signing and symbols for stage 3 and 4
- Signing and Symbols for part of the additional vocabulary
- Practice symbols and signing Level 1 and 2
Course Aims for Part 2:
- Level 2 training provides a continuation to the Makaton Language Programme
- Sessions include discussing commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to improve/develop using Makaton in everyday situations at work
- Participants will also learn the signs and symbols from Stages 3 and 4, and some of the Additional stage, of the Core Vocabulary

Certification
