Prior Learning:

Solutions Social Care Gateway Programme: Day 1, Day 2, and e-learning courses

Recommended Participants:

New support staff at Solutions Social Care, including Day Opportunities Workers, Senior Day Opportunity Workers, Positive Behaviour Support Workers, Centre Managers, Head Office Staff, escorts and any other direct care and support staff (e.g. Outreach, Short-Breaks, Supported Living).

Course Aims:

  1. To introduce and welcome new support staff to Solutions, our values and priorities.
  2. To clarify how systems such as pay and availability work at Solutions, and which contacts and resources are available to staff.
  3. To ensure new support staff understand their responsibilities and how they are expected to support our service users, including using suitable communication methods.
  4. To invite staff to reflect on the role of a support worker and the kind of service they want to provide.
  5. To use a range of teaching methods and media to promote intake of information, reflection and learning.

Buko Esegbona

Buko is the Director of Services at Solutions Social Care. Buko has worked in the social care and education sector for nearly twenty years. He has worked in residential, outreach, and day opportunities and has set up specialised services for people with autism. He has delivered workshops on autism for some the UK’s leading charities including The National Autistic Society (NAS) United Response, Dimensions, Certitude, Westminster Society and Choice Support. He is a board member for the Autism Accreditation Panel and also chairs the Ealing Learning Disabilities Forum.

Sharon Williams

Having previously worked in transportation for several years and being employed by Addison Lee, Ruth joined Solutions in October 2015.   A popular member of staff, Ruth can be relied upon to see tasks through to completion. Ruth has overall responsibility for designated accounts and scheduling transportation assignments. Ruth is CIPD trained in Human Resources as well as registered as a Transport for London Passenger Carriage Officer (PCO) driver!

Ruth Robinson

Learning Outcomes

  1. For delegates to understand Solutions’ systems such as pay, availability and transport, and to follow defined procedures
  2. For delegates to make effective use of the Temporary Care Workers Handbook to help clarify queries
  3. For delegates to know who to contact with queries and to understand and adopt Solution’s values
  4. For delegates to approach the people they support with empathy, enthusiasm and a person-centred focus

Certification

Delegates will receive a CPD certificate after successful completion. The certificate is valid for two years, after which time delegates will need to attend again as a refresher. *terms and conditions apply: please see our Training Policy
